Tags: Cloth FX Pinning Tag

This tag enables you to pin vertices in the cloth object so that they are fixed in place and do not take part in the simulation. There is a simple pin setting in the Cloth Tag, but if you want to pin vertices to another object, you must use this tag.

Interface

The tag's interface looks like this:

For the buttons at the bottom of the interface, please see the 'Common interface elements' page.

Parameters

Object

Drag the object to pin vertices to into this field.

Note that pin objects must be polygon objects and they must have enough polygons so that vertices in the cloth can find pin object vertices close to them. If you do not have enough polygons in the mesh, no pinning will happen. However, if the polygons in the pin object are very small, pinning may also fail, so it requires a balance between sufficient polygons to pin to but not so many that they are too small to be used. Start with a low polygon count and increase it if necessary.

Once the cloth vertices are pinned you can animate the pin object to move the cloth around.

Pin Map

This field accepts a map which contains the vertices on the cloth object which are to be pinned. The map itself can be a point selection tag or a vertex map painted on the cloth object. All the points in the map will be fixed in place and will not take part in the simulation.

Example

This video shows a cloth object which has two sets of vertices pinned to two cylinder objects:
